BLEST ARE WE Silver Burdett Ginn Religion

Level (grade) 5 continues faith formation for children and their families focusing on a study of all seven sacraments..  The text is based on the structure of the Catechism of the Catholic Church and the spirit of the General Directory for Catechesis.

Concepts: God is the Creator of all things.  The Church is the people of God and the Body of Christ. Baptism and Confirmation, sacraments of initiation, welcome us into the Church and strengthen our faith. Eucharist as understood in the Pascal Mystery and celebrated in liturgy, strengthens faith and builds community and completes our initiation into the faith.  Reconciliation and Anointing of the Sick are sacraments of healing taught in the context of the meaning of suffering, forgiveness, sorrow and contrition.  Matrimony is presented in the context of the family as the “domestic church.”  Holy Orders, a sacrament of leadership and ministry, is taught in the context of Christian participation of all baptized people in the priesthood of Christ. During the year, the Beatitudes, the liturgical year, the Commandments, conscience and grace are reviewed.

Prayer and Worship: Apostle’s Creed, Our Father, Penitential Rite of the Mass, Act of Contrition. One class is devoted to the Mass and includes a tour of our church, chapel and sacristy.

Each chapter includes a section called “Family Time”.  Families are strongly encouraged to take advantage of this special feature to affirm their faith at home, at regular weekend Mass attendance and family discussions of faith.

Here are some suggestions that you may find helpful to enhance the experience of Religious Education with your child.

Model and live your lives in accord with Christian principles.

Support and guide your child in making good decisions.

Make Scripture a part of family life and share Bible stories.

Talk about faith with your family; share how God is working in your lives.

Enjoy nature together; note that it is a gift from God, and we are its caretakers.

Participate in Sunday Liturgy and discuss how it affects your lives.

Serve others as Jesus did; identify ways your family can help others.
