BLEST ARE WE   Silver Burdett Ginn Religion

Level (grade) 6 continues faith formation for children and their families focusing on a study of the Old Testament (Hebrew Scriptures).  The text is based on the structure of the Catechism of the Catholic Church and the spirit of the General Directory for Catechesis.  .

Concepts: The people of the Old Testament are models of faith. (Abraham, Sarah, Moses, Samuel, Saul and the Israelites)  The Old Testament stories help us to understand the New Testament concepts of revelation (the Gospel), Exodus (death and resurrection), the Chosen People (the mission of the Church), the messages of the prophets (the message of Jesus), the promise of the Messiah (Jesus as our Savior).

Prayer and Worship: The Mass, Easter (the Pascal Mystery), The Ten Commandments and Reconciliation, Psalms, praying with Scripture.

Each chapter includes a section called “Family Time”.  Families are strongly encouraged to take advantage of this special feature to affirm their faith at home, at regular weekend Mass attendance and family discussion of faith.
