BLEST ARE WE - Silver Burdett Ginn Religion
The focus of Grade 2 is preparation to celebrate the forgiveness of God in the Sacrament of Reconciliation and receiving Jesus in Holy Communion. The children are lead step-by-step through scripture and prayers.
Unit Themes:
+ We are welcomed into the Church community of believers. Through the Sacrament of Baptism, we become members of the Church and try to follow the example of Jesus, Mary, and the saints. As part of the Church community we offer to God prayers of thanks and praise.
+ Through the Church we can acquire a sense of morality and virtue. Through the sacrament of Reconciliation, we can celebrate God’s forgiveness and learn to reestablish our relationships with others, God and the Church community.
+ At Mass we listen to the word of God in the Scripture readings and learn from the homily. We are also encouraged to renew our beliefs and express our concerns for those who are in need.
+ The Mass is the celebration of the life, death, and Resurrection of Jesus, in which Jesus Christ is truly present in the Eucharist.
+ Through the Holy Spirit, the church works for justice and peace in the community and in the world.
Concepts: We gather as Believers; we ask God’s forgiveness; we celebrate the Word of God; we celebrate the Gift of Eucharist; and we go in peace.
Prayer and Worship: The Mass and Prayers during the Mass, the Hail Mary. Activities required for Eucharist preparation include:
+ Verification of Baptismal Certificate
+ Participation at all three Eucharist Family Sessions
+ Eucharist Parent Pastoral Visit
