BLEST ARE WE   Silver Burdett Ginn Religion

Level (grade) 8 continues faith formation for children and their families focusing on a study of the history of Christianity and the Church in the modern world..  The text is based on the structure of the Catechism of the Catholic Church and the spirit of the General Directory for Catechesis.

Concepts: The early Christians built their communities around the celebration of the Lord’s Supper (the Mass).  We will study the impact of the Councils, culture and conflicts in our Church history and how these have effected Christians today in our catechism, liturgy and sacramental life. The Reformation is studied in the context of forgiveness and reconciliation. The Church of today, Vatican II, current liturgical practice and our prayer life are reviewed.

CONFIRMATION GIFTED WITH THE SPIRIT examines the sacrament of Confirmation in depth.  Commitment and involvement in the Church, commitment to your relationship with God, commitment to prayer, commitment to live the Gospel values are considered.  The Gifts of the Holy Spirit are studied.  Issues of charity and service to our neighbors are discussed. The rite of Confirmation is explained and the candidate is prepared to receive this last sacrament of initiation.
