St. Vincent DePaul Society

The Society's goal is to deal with the initial emergency of a family and then introduce individuals into programs that will benefit them to assist changing their circumstances.

The national economic downturn has resulted in many families in need turning to the Society in greater numbers due to emergency situations. No need is outside of the concern of the Society.

The Society's goal is to deal with the initial emergency of families and then shepherd them into programs that can bring lasting change into their lives.  The Society of St. Vincent DePaul helps those in need. The Society is a Lay organization.  The members,   Vincentians, are parishioners of St. Michael Parish who help those in need with the most basic necessities: food, shelter, and clothing.  Those we help are parishioners and those of our community who not only need financial but emotional assistance.  The members work in a confidential, practical and compassionate response to those who have fallen on difficult times.  The Society sees the face of Christ in all who are suffering.

Interested in supporting the Society?

Donations are locally used and distributed throughout our community.

Monetary donations help sustain the Society to continue our work. You can submit a donation by placing it into the poor boxes in the narthex of the church. You can also make a donation by placing an envelope marked "St. Vincent de Paul" or "SVDP" into the collection basket at any Mass. Annually, the Thanksgiving Day collection is donated to the Society. This is the only collection we receive from the parish throughout the year.

Food is always the most important part of our mission; no one should be without food. Children from the St. Michael School and St. Michael Religious Education program host annual food collections to keep our shelves filled, but additional donations of non-perishable items are always welcome.

Twice a year, in spring and fall, the Society hosts a bundle weekend where good, usable clothing and small household goods can be dropped off at the parish for those in need.

  • Other times of the year, you can arrange for a pickup of furniture or clothing, by contacting the St. Vincent de Paul warehouse, located at 9321 S. Western Avenue, by phone at (773) 779-6700.

  • Articles may be dropped off anytime to the St. Vincent de Paul store at 4644 W. 147th Street in Midlothian.

  • You can contact the store directly with any questions by calling (708) 388-7767.

We also network with other agencies, in a confidential manner, in order to solve financial problems. If you'd like to work with the Society, please contact us at (708) 873-4669.
