Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist

SIGN UP SHEETS FOR ASH WEDNESDAY MASSES WILL BE AVAILABLE SOON AT THE SIGN IN TABLE.   PLEASE REMEMBER THAT MINISTERS ON ASH WEDNESDAY ALSO HELP WITH THE DISTRIBUTION OF ASHES.

Willingness to serve as an Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist reflects not only a response to our Baptismal call to serve the people of God, but a commitment to Christ as we share in the preaching, teaching and leading aspects of the church. Only fully initiated members of the faith community can serve as Ministers of the Eucharist.

Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist recognize the Body of Christ in those to whom they offer Eucharist, and act as the Body of Christ by leading a Christian life, and by fully participating in the life of the parish and the wider community. The minister's willingness to commit to a quarterly schedule, to serve for special holy days and holidays, to prepare properly for service, and to arrive on time, dressed appropriately, for the assigned Mass, further reflects that commitment. Ministers are mandated by the Archdiocese for service at St. Michael Parish for a period of 3 years. Mandates are renewable. St. Michael's ministers are mandated through the end of November of 2014.

Should you have any questions regarding policies and procedures for this ministry, please see the Extraordinary Minister of Communion Handbook in either English or Spanish.

Those who wish to bring Communion to the sick at home, in a nursing home or in a hospital must undergo a separate six week training and are mandated specifically for this service. Contact Sr. Marietta Umlor for more information on bringing Communion to the Sick.

Please Note..

  • Thank you to the 327 individuals who were remandated to serve as extraordinary ministers for St. Michael.
  • Please note that H1 and C1 will take the trays of ciboria and chalices off of the altar. The Sacristan will carry the ciboria and chalices to the altar.
  • Extraordinary ministers please advise anyone who comes forward in your line with a pyx to see the priest following Communion.  Anyone with questions regarding bringing Communion home to a sick family member or friend should call Sr. Marietta Umlor at 708-873-4635.
  • If you are a minister of the chalice and your line is finished and you have any Precious Blood left, please check that other stations have enough Precious Blood to finish distributing to the remaining communicants before you consume the rest of the consecrated wine in your chalice. If another chalice is low; just switch places with that minister.
  • Please remember to arrive at least 10 minutes early to sign in as an Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist. If you arrive later, the sacristan may have already filled your station.
  • Please remain conscious of your dress as you come to minister.  Remember we are to be transparent in our ministry reflecting Christ in our presence at the altar.
  • Sanitizer has been placed on both sides of the Church so that you can use a small amount before you serve as an Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist. Please try to use sanitizer regularly and make sure your hands are dry before you begin to serve.
